Has copyright gone too far?
by Hannah Klomp
Before this whole idea about copyright, and the laws surrounding it, ideas were thought of as being public commons. Ideas were accessible by anybody, there were no such thing as a law that could allow you to sue somebody for using a piece of your work nothing. Compared to today, this might seem scary, to not have anything of yours protected, but this brings me to another idea, the idea that copyright laws have gone too far. That in fact, the laws we have no are scary.
Take for example, what we heard in the lecture this week about a mother being sued by Prince’s company over a home video that she uploaded onto the networking site of YouTube of her young son singing a Prince song. This is unbelievable! Has society really taken it too far? What do you think about this subject? Let me know!
